summer house

skiathos greece 2005

The proposal intends to capture the great 270 degrees sea views on a coastal plot that is raised above the street level.

In the Greek islands summer life is mostly outdoors.  The house designed for a family of four is broken into five different programmatic areas in five separate asymmetric cubic volumes (resembling randomly thrown oversized stones) that are organized around a central courtyard with vistas across the sea.  Each asymmetric cube is fitted to hold the living room, dining/kitchen, outdoor sitting, master suite and two bedrooms with playroom that opens into the swimming pool.

Connecting the cubes around the courtyard orchestrates a promenade around mediterranean plants and trees that allow the user to sit and enjoy the views under natural shadow.
